We started talking about making laundry a habit the other day. You can check out the post here! I’m on a mission to make my home more systematic so I can enjoy it more. I used to think that I wanted all kinds of freedom and didn’t want anyone to dictate my time.
Schedules, systems, habits used to scare me. I have been afraid that making too much of a schedule would not allow for flexibility in my days. What I am finding is habits, schedules and systems have actually helped me gain more freedom in my day.
I have learned a lot about the value of habits and routines from Crystal Paine of MoneySavingMom.com. She teaches courses on productivity that have helped me in my journey.
One of the habits that I have been working on recently is laundry. It really is the easiest place to start. If you are like me, laundry is ALWAYS there. It is ever looming and staring you right in the face. My advice to you is to come up with a system that works for you. My general thought at my house is to do one load of laundry every day, start to finish.
This is what I do
Normally I will start a load in the evening, then get it to they dryer before bed. This way my clean load is ready to be folded first thing in the morning. I try to fold the load before I drink my coffee.
Doing these small tasks through out the day will help in the whole laundry process. I am so glad I started putting a system to my laundry. It may not be exactly the same day to day but if I stick with the goal of completing one load of laundry every day I make the actions work for me.
Make life work for you
That’s where the freedom comes in. Decide what you want to get done in your day and then think of the best way to get it done. Everyone has different circumstances, schedules and responsibilities. Making your life work for you is the key. Don’t try to fit your life into someone else’s mold. Take time to evaluate how you can make you small changes to see big results in your laundry pile.
Now it’s your turn
Finally, I want to hear from you. I love learning from other people and hearing lots of different perspectives. Please share your laundry routine with the community. We’d also love to hear what you are experimenting with to make life easier for you. Comment below and we will discuss what works and what doesn’t.
